On the second, third, and fourth weekends in October, the annual Sorghum
Festival is held in Blairsville at Fort Sorghum. Contests such as "Biskit Eatin'," "Pole Climbin',' and "Log Sawin'
set the tone for a down-home good time for all ages. Celebrating the
lost art of sorghum syrup making, the festival has live demonstrations
showing how the cane is crushed and cooked. A parade, car show, and
square dances round out the celebration.

While the fort is the centerpiece of the festival, the parade that
begins this three week extravaganza is far and away the most popular
event, drawing enthusiasts from the northern third of the state. In
spite of the festival's growing popularity the parade has managed
to retain its "small-town" flavor, with local businesses
and civic groups creating floats, populated by adults and kids (and
a dog here and there) who are having fun! Visitors on the side of
the road have fun, too, since the parade participants shower the audience
with candy and trinkets.
