Features Tellico is an unusual place, loaded with rocks of all sizes from small to extremely large and H2O seems to be present all year. The riding is easy on most roads and difficult to very difficult on some roads. The difficult roads were roads that were littered with rocks the size of your coffee table or steep inclines with 3' to 4' vertical rock faces in the middle of the climb.

The dirt roads at Tellico will accommodate only one vehicle at a time and the roads are lined with large boulders on both sides.

Camping is available at Stateline Campground. Camping is free and on a first come basis. Campsite is on a nice big creek. Beware - tickets are issued for those who ride their bikes from the campground to the ORV area. This particular ORV parking lot will hold a maximum of 4 or 5 cars.
Directions Directions to Upper Tellico = Tennessee side is paved road all the way. Begin : Near Murphy N.C. @ Hwy 19/129 and Hwy 64 go on Hwy 64 W 2 miles; then go Hwy 294 N 14 miles; then go Hwy 68 N 23 miles; then Hwy 165 E 5 miles to a Ranger Station sign where you will turn right onto a unmarked paved road. Then go 18 miles down this paved road to Stateline Campground and the ORV pay fee area or entrance to Upper Tellico. Distance from Murphy is 1.5 hours. By the way, there is a motel on this road leading to Stateline Campground called Green Cove Motel (615-253-2069, 2 double beds for $39). The motel is on the creek.

Directions to Upper Tellico = North Carolina side, 5 miles of dirt road to parking area and no camping at this entrance. These directions may seem difficult but just keep going - you will get there. Begin: Murphy N.C. @ Hwy 19/129 and Hwy 64 go North on 19/129 past Pizza Hut then at the second light turn left and into the city center of Murphy. Go to the Murphy town center or square and turn left onto Tennessee St. You must look very hard and carefully for the Tennessee St. street sign. I guarantee the street sign is there. Tennessee St. turns into Hanging Dog Rd. Proceed down Hanging Dog and then turn right onto Davis Creek Rd. After a while, Davis Creek Rd. turns to dirt, so go 5 miles on this dirt road to the parking area. These directions do work - do not despair. Distance from Murphy is 45 minutes.
